Though the official release of Apple’s upcoming smartphones is still a few months away, the iPhone 16 rumours haven’t stopped coming in earnest. We predict the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max to be among the greatest phones of 2024.

In fact, we already have a good idea of what the iPhone 16 and its siblings may provide when they launch later this year. The Pro versions’ larger displays, a new “Capture” button, and camera enhancements are among the highlights. Additionally, it is likely that Apple’s iPhone 15 replacements will support the Apple Vision Pro headgear.

However, there are still a tonne of other leaks to sort through. All of the information we currently know about the iPhone 16 is included here. Visit our specialised hubs for the iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max for a thorough look at the remaining Apple’s next top iPhone competitors.

IPHONE 16 RELEASE DATE SPECULATION

Likely to begin operations in September 2024’s first half
The estimated shipping date is going to be a week or so later.
It should go without saying, but we have no idea when the iPhone 16 line will launch because Apple has just recently (relatively) unveiled the iPhone 15 line. Nevertheless, we can forecast a few things based on previous Apple behaviour.

It should go without saying, but we have no idea when the iPhone 16 line will launch because Apple has just recently (relatively) unveiled the iPhone 15 line. Nevertheless, we can forecast a few things based on previous Apple behaviour.

We anticipate that Apple will reveal the iPhone 16’s release date at its yearly September launch event in 2024, if the firm follows history. The precise date of the event is probably not going to be known until August 2024, but we can use the dates of previous Apple events to estimate when the Apple event could happen in the future and, consequently, when the iPhone 16 might be available for purchase.

This indicates that the iPhone 16 will most likely launch on September 3 or September 10 in 2024 (both dates are Tuesdays), however September 4 or 11 may also be possible. Similar to the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 is anticipated to delivery one week following the launch of pre-orders.

IPHONE 16 PRICE PREDICTIONS

Regarding the price of the iPhone 16, tipsters dispute.
For obvious reasons, official iPhone 16 pricing is unlikely to be revealed until September of next year, and opinions among tipsters regarding Apple’s potential price increases or decreases are already mixed.

As of right now, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the most costly model from Apple, starting at $1,199 / £1,399 / AU$2,099, while the basic iPhone 15 is the least expensive, starting at $799 / £799 / AU$1,499. The iPhone 16 line in 2024 may follow these numbers, in the same way that the iPhone 15 line followed the iPhone 14 line in terms of pricing.

But according to some analysts, the iPhone 16 might end up being less expensive than the iPhone 15. This is due to reports that Apple intends to change the method by which it produces iPhone chipsets at some point in 2024, which may have an effect on the final cost of the device for the customer.

On the other hand, increased production costs may make the iPhone 16 more costly than the iPhone 15. A recent report from Nikkei Asia claims that Apple had to pay $558 to make the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is 12% more than what it had to pay to produce the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Similar rumours have suggested that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max may cost extra due to its potential higher-quality cameras.

Apple might have to raise the retail price of the iPhone 16 in an effort to preserve its profit margin if production expenses keep rising. Put another way, we might be looking at an iPhone 16 that, at its most basic model, costs more than $799 / £799 / AU$1,499, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a starting price of more than $1,199 / £1,199 / AU$2,199.

It’s also important to remember that Apple might release the first iPhone with the Ultra brand in 2024. Although there were initial rumours that the iPhone 15 Pro Max would be replaced this year by an iPhone 15 Ultra, analysts now expect that an iPhone 16 Ultra will debut next year, instead.

IPHONE 16 POSSIBLE SCREEN SIZES

Image Arena: PhoneArena

Standard model is probably going to stay 6.1 inches.
Pro models get better aspect ratios and larger panels.
We anticipate that the basic iPhone 16 will continue to use the 6.1-inch display from its predecessor in terms of screen sizes. On the other hand, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max might be the largest models to date.

According to frequent Apple leaker Ross Young, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Ultra, also known as the iPhone 16 Pro Max, would have screens that measure 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. They will also feature a new 19.6:9 aspect ratio. They would then be the smallest and tallest iPhones ever made.

A second rumour now supports the 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screen sizes, and a third leak also suggests that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max panels would be 0.2 inches bigger than those of their predecessors. In a similar vein, another source indicates that the screen sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be 6.86 and 6.27 inches, respectively.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, for example, have screens that measure 6.1 and 6.7 inches, respectively. All iPhone 15 models have an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumoured to have reduced bezels, which is another reason why we’ve heard about these size increases.

Why may Apple be considering making its already powerful iPhones even more robust? It is said that the bigger screens of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Ultra will allow for significant camera improvements (more on this later).

The basic iPhone 16, according to Ross Young, will maintain the same 19.5:9 aspect ratio as the greatest iPhones available today. However, these dimensions alterations may eventually find their way into the 2025 models of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus.

That’s about in line with another leak that claims the screen sizes of the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are 6.12 and 6.69 inches, respectively. The basic iPhone 16 models, regrettably, are rumoured to have a 60Hz refresh rate once more, just like their predecessors.

IPHONE 16 CAMERA RUMORS

For both Pro variants, the periscope lens
There are also rumours of a “super-telephoto” periscope lens for the Pro Max 48MP ultra-wide camera.
Regarding cameras, early reports indicate that the basic iPhone 16 may use the same 48MP primary and 12MP ultra-wide dual-sensor configuration as the iPhone 15.

The more significant camera improvements are probably reserved for the iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, and/or iPhone 16 Ultra, as is customary. In fact, the periscope zoom lens, which will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro Max in 2023, may be found on the first-ever mid-sized iPhone in the form of the iPhone 16 Pro.

This is not the first time this rumour has surfaced; analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said as recently as September 2023 that the iPhone 16 Pro will inherit the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s “tetraprism” periscope camera technology, while analyst Jeff Pu made a similar claim regarding the iPhone 16 Pro in October.

More recently, in November, Ming-Chi Kuo restated his assertions regarding the 5x zoom camera, stating that the production yield of this camera has increased significantly from before, possibly indicating that Apple will be better equipped to include it in a number of phones.

But the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max (or iPhone 16 Ultra) won’t necessarily be on par with each other just because the former has a periscope zoom lens.

In fact, according to some reports, this enormous 6.9-inch iPhone may come equipped with a “super-telephoto” periscope camera. The phrase “super telephoto” refers to lenses that have focal lengths more than 300mm. Photographers can take up-close pictures of far-off objects and scenes, such as wildlife and athletic events, with the use of these lenses.

Although Apple’s existing iPhone models currently rank among the best smartphones with cameras available, the addition of a “super-telephoto” periscope camera to the iPhone 16 Pro Max might be revolutionary. In contrast, the 10x telephoto zoom camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has a focal length of 230mm, while the 5x telephoto zoom camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a maximum focal length of 120mm.

According to rumours, the telephoto cameras on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max may be made of thin moulded glass, which would allow them to have longer zoom lengths in a comparable package size.

IPHONE 16 POSSIBLE FEATURES

  • A18 Pro/Bionic chipset probable for Pro models;
  • A17 Pro or A18 chipset likely for iPhone 16
  • All batteries have different sizes.
We believe that the standard iPhone 16 will inherit the A17 Pro from the iPhone 15 Pro, while the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will receive an as-yet-unnamed A18 Pro/Bionic. This is because the standard iPhone 15 inherited the A16 Bionic chipset from the iPhone 14 Pro, and both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max received Apple’s shiny new A17 Pro chipset.

Nevertheless, a leak suggests that the A18 processor is present in every iPhone 16 model, suggesting that they could all be similarly potent. The source does point out that there might still be some distinction, with the Pro phones perhaps sporting a Pro chipset.

Unfortunately, it looks like even the A18 Pro may not have a tonne of power. According to one source, the A18 Pro is just about 10% more powerful than the A17 Pro, and another suggests that it may have less power than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 competition. Additionally, rumours have it that the A18 Pro won’t likely support LPDDR6 RAM, which could disadvantage it in AI workloads when compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

Regarding the battery, frequent Apple leaker Majin Bu hinted (via X) that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a 5% bigger battery than the iPhone 15 Pro Max (4,676mAh vs. 4,422mAh) and the iPhone 16 will have a 6% larger battery than the iPhone 15. (3,561mAh vs. 3,349 mAh).

The tipster notes that the iPhone 16 Plus will have a 9% smaller battery than the iPhone 15 Plus, which is a significant difference from its siblings. However, Bu has “not been able to obtain information on the Pro model for the moment.”

Another iPhone 16 battery leak, which this time does feature the iPhone 16 Pro, has confirmed these same assertions. It looks like it will have a 3,355mAh battery, which is 2% more than the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3,290mAh battery.

There are rumours that all four of the iPhone 15 models will have a new stacked battery design, similar to what is seen in electric cars. This suggests that Apple may include the more energy-efficient battery technology into its 2024 iPhone models.

If this is accurate, the iPhone 16 series might have far longer battery life than the iPhone 15 line since stacked batteries have the potential to be more densely packed and have a higher energy density than present mobile batteries.
